I wish I could pick your brain, and I was just telling my husband last night how jealous I am of your excellent descriptive work (especially within your beats).
You're pretty fantastic. I was just curious: as you write and/or brainstorm do you actually visualize what's happening as though watching a movie? Do you ever find yourself surprised by something your characters do or say? By some path your story walks without your planning/permission? Are you nervous to have your work turned into movies because they might not match up to what you envisioned? Do you ever wonder at the religious parallels in your work?
In case you can't tell, I'm a fan.
Kimkoch2011@gmail.com Kimnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6592618579691342937.post-69426318679636900852015-08-17T04:10:09.279-07:002015-08-17T04:10:09.279-07:00Thank you for reminding me that we can write about...Thank you for reminding me that we can write about ANYTHING we want. It's too easy to lose sight of it when I'm too focused on the next book for too long - and from there, it's only a small step to getting frustrated and losing the joy and magic of writing somewhere. I love your attic book idea - it sounds perfect for capturing all the random bits and pieces that don't belong in the current projects, and enjoying the creative freedom at the same time; a little bit of a breather every day. I'm definitely going to do that!Kate Fierrohttp://katefierro.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6592618579691342937.post-11939559049818347722015-04-24T17:05:23.678-07:002015-04-24T17:05:23.678-07:00Great stuff. Decide on a tense.
3: Name the book.
4: Start the book.
5: Let the story happen.

For example, this particular story I wrote started completely differently. It started with Maggie, who was the daughter of the last faerie. Then came the Faerie Queendom, and Maria, the Hunter. As soon as she came in, I decided to kill Maria. I'm on the fourth book in the series, and Maria is still going strong! I can't cut her- but I can change her slightly eventually.Maenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6592618579691342937.post-37764506519563678202010-07-21T14:26:10.697-07:002010-07-21T14:26:10.697-07:00Oooh.. that Cinderella thought was a good one. I mean, I'm in the middle of writing a novel, and I have, like: begining and the end heavily developed, planned out perfectly, and I know exactly what I want to happen there. I finished the begining. It went good. Now I'm in the middle-- so what do I do now? I think I'll try to brainstorm, just little activities my character, Miria, can do, leading up to the plot. Cuz right now, she's pretty bored, because I do NOT know what to do next. But I will try the brainstorming! I have heard that some writers prefer to start with an idea and surge forward. That doesn't work for me, but it sounds like it would be GREAT -- do what you do. Cultivate your own process. Be willing to try other stuff when you get stuck. You might find that the brainstorming is more helpful to you when you're already writing along and you get to a place where you're not sure what's going to happen next. The only piece of writing advice that I think applies to ALL writers is: JUST WRITE! Have fun!Laini Taylorhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14064837312936707024noreply@blogger.com
